    What size of needle

    • @planetjune
      @planetjune 14 дней назад

      I used worsted weight yarn and a 3.5mm hook for this demo, but you can make an i-cord with any weight of yarn; just choose a hook size that works well with your yarn. Thinner yarn and a smaller hook will give you a thinner cord. Moving up to a larger hook with the same yarn will give you a looser, floppier cord. Just try it out and see what you like!

    How do you ad safety eyes?

    • @planetjune
      @planetjune 23 дня назад

      You add the eyes later, once you've crocheted past the area where you want them. Just insert the shank of the eye into a gap between stitches, and, when you're happy with the position of the eye, you can push on the back of the eye from the inside of the head to secure it.

    Thank you so so much for this! I was working on a dachshund amigurumi pattern that I already finished for my mother, and while I liked how it turned out I struggled a lot with the color changes in the face. I'm making the same pattern again for my grandmother, and because I was struggling again, I turned to your color changing video to see if that was the issue. I was doing the changes correctly, but I noticed that you were crocheting on the outside of the piece, which is what lead me here. I can't tell you how grateful I am! This explains all of the issues I've always had with amigurumi patterns with color changes; the pattern is turning out perfectly now!

    • @planetjune
      @planetjune Месяц назад

      This is the best method I've found, and I agree that it has limits - I don't design any tubes with only 3 sts around, as it's just too thin to be workable! I'd use a crocheted i-cord if I needed a 3 st tube (see www.planetjune.com/icord for my tutorial).

      You can use any kind of stick from a craft store, dollar store etc that has the diameter you need for your flower stem. Thin dowels are good for sturdier stems, but I also use bamboo skewers (the ones sold for grilling food!)

    I’d love to how you organize your stash, even if you haven’t found the perfect solution yet. I love the thread cards and would use them, but how do you catalog them?

    • @planetjune
      @planetjune 2 месяца назад

      Mine is not an instagram-worthy solution, but it works! My stash is in plastic drawers, split by yarn type and organized (roughly!) in colour order, so they're in the same order - or close enough - as they are in the swatch box. You can see the drawers in my blog post about making the swatch box: www.planetjune.com/blog/yarn-colour-swatch-box/ It's pretty easy to find the yarn I need. I have 1-4 labelled drawers for each yarn line. As the drawer fronts are clear, when I have multiple drawers containing the same yarn, I can see which is the red-orange-yellow drawer or the green-blue-purple drawer (or whatever) before I open them. So I make my colour choices from the swatch box and then I can lay my hands on the right yarn in seconds!

      I just crochet a circle of the appropriate size (by using finer yarn and a smaller hook) if I need larger eyes - e.g. 6 sc in a magic ring. Then I add the white glint in the same way as I show in this video!) You can see an example of that, with more tips for where to add the glint, here: www.planetjune.com/glint

    • @planetjune
      @planetjune 2 месяца назад

      There are only two needle motions for this: one horizontal stitch into the base piece, and one vertical stitch through both loops of the open piece. I show the whole process several times, so I'd recommend you go back to the start of the purple stitches section and re-watch that section if you need to see more stitches made - every stitch is formed from just those two needle insertions!

      You may be skipping stitches somewhere, or you made a mistake earlier in the pattern that's making the numbers not add up properly. I'd recommend you use a start-of-round stitch marker (see www.planetjune.com/stitchmarker for my video tutorial) to make sure you haven't made a mistake in a round before you continue to the next round - even getting one stitch wrong earlier can lead to the problem getting worse and worse as you continue!

    How do you tie it off

    • @planetjune
      @planetjune 2 месяца назад

      For either of the sewing methods, finish by fastening off securely, keeping the knot beneath the edge of the applique, then weave in the yarn end by passing it through the stitches on the back of your applique, so the end is trapped between the applique and the background.

    What do you mean, working yarn, nooooo, my brain works like the one of a five year old so this is confusing, I need step by step instructions that I understand, this just made me mad and stressed trying to do the magic ring

    • @planetjune
      @planetjune 2 месяца назад

      It's okay, take a breath and go through it slowly - it may take a few watch throughs before you understand. The working yarn is the long end that goes to the ball of yarn (as opposed to the starting tail, which is the short end you started with when you made the loop). You can do this!
